Floyd Mayweather set to return to RIZIN FF, faces Mikuru Asakura

Floyd Mayweather will be returning to Japan to fight for RIZIN FF. Mayweather who fought kickboxing phenom Tenshin Nasukawa and knocked him out under the RIZIN FF banner in December of 2019, has struck another deal with the promotion. RIZIN FF announced that Mayweather will take on MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in an exhibition boxing match in September.

Floyd Mayweather will still be boxing after all. Mayweather was supposed to box Don Moore on May 14th atop the helicopter landing pad at Burj Al Khalifa Hotel in Dubai. Former UFC champion Anderson Silva was set to be on the card as well. However, just days before the event, due to the death of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which has prompted the country to announce a three-day suspension of work, the event was canceled.

Sterling (21-3 MMA) most recently retained his bantamweight title at UFC 273, defeating Petr Yan (16-3 MMA) by a split decision. It was the second time the two met, the first being at UFC 259 in March of 2021, where Sterling was awarded the title after Yan was disqualified by an illegal knee.

The fight was a no-contest, due to there being no judges on hand for the fight.
