Junior dos Santos plans to finish Alan Belcher via submission to lay claim to Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA gold
Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will be hunting for a submission when he meets Alan Belcher next month.
“Cigano” will get a chance to add another championship to his mantle. He will be fighting fellow ex-UFC athlete Belcher for the inaugural Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA Heavyweight Championship on March 2. After being released from the UFC following a five-fight skid, dos Santos scored a split decision victory over Fabricio Werdum back in September 2023. Now, “Cigano” wants to pull off a rare submission victory.
Can he submit Alan Belcher?
Junior dos Santos Hopes To Showcase Jiu-Jitsu Skills Against Alan Belcher
During an interview with Mike Owens for MiddleEasy, dos Santos shared his belief that Belcher didn’t deserve the split nod he received in his bout against Roy Nelson last year.
“Right now, he lost that fight, he won the first round, but he lost the other rounds. That is what I saw and that is what many saw. But, that doesn’t matter,” dos Santos said to MiddleEasy. “I have him as an opponent for my next fight and that is what matters to me. I know he has good experience with the bare-knuckle thing, he’s an aggressive fighter, and that makes things even sweeter. That is the type of challenger I want because I’m really enjoying myself right now.”
“Cigano” went on to predict a submission finish to capture the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA gold.
“There is no other heavyweight that can be faster than me. I move well and I throw some hard punches. I’m ready for everything, it’s MMA as well. I will say the same something, as soon as Alan Belcher starts to feel these hands connecting against his face, it will change his strategy right away, he will try and take me down to avoid these punches. That will be his biggest mistake because then I will submit him,” dos Santos concluded.
