Bethe Correia updates on accident and emergency surgery that thwarted Octagon return
Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia was planning on returning to action this January, when she expected to fight Mexico’s Irene Aldana. Regrettably, Correia has apparently gone through an accident, and has been sidelined due to an emergency surgery.
The Brazilian fighter updated on this unfortunate turn of events in a Monday morning Instagram post.
“Firstly, I wanted to thank Irene Aldana for agreeing to fight with me in January, [I] was very excited about going to war with a Mexican woman,” Bethe Correia said in her post. “Unfortunately I had an accident, having to undergo an emergency surgery and my return to the most famous octagon of the world will be delayed for a few more months. I was extremely excited to show the world my evolution and what I learned in my exchanges in Thailand and Texas, anyway … I’ll meet you in the first half of 2018. Injuries are a part of fighter life and serve to prepare us for tough battles and with the overcoming leaves us psychologically stronger.”
Bethe Correia last fought in June, when she was knocked out by former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. She is 10-3 overall. Here’s hoping she makes a speedy recovery!
