Paulo Costa issues statement following loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC 298
Paulo Costa has spoken out following his UFC 298 loss against Robert Whittaker in an exciting middleweight scrap.
It was “Borrachinha’s” first fight since August 2022. Costa had Whittaker hurt in a bad way at the end of the first round, landing a spinning heel kick. If there had been a few more seconds left in the round, who knows if “The Reaper” would’ve survived.
Whittaker made it to round two and was able to find his groove, damaging the left leg of his opponent with kicks. Costa was marching forward, but Whittaker wasn’t backing down by any means. The fight went the distance and all three judges had “The Reaper” winning, awarding him the unanimous decision victory.

While Costa didn’t walk out of Anaheim with a win, he proved to still be a dangerous force in the middleweight division. Who he’ll be matched up against next should be interesting, but for now, he’ll want to rest up and assess some areas in the Whittaker fight that led to the judges favoring his opponent.
