UFC 298: ‘Volkanovski vs. Topuria’ Live Results and Highlights
The Octagon returns to Anaheim, California, for tonight’s UFC 298 event, a twelve-bout fight card headlined by Alex Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria.
Volkanovski (26-3 MMA) will enter the contest looking to rebound from the nasty knockout loss he suffered to Islam Makhachev in a short notice fight for the promotion‘s lightweight title at UFC 294. ‘The Great’ has never lost at featherweight and will be looking to defend his 145lbs title for the sixth time when takes to the Octagon this evening.
Meanwhile, Ilia Topuria (14-0 MMA) enters tonight’s headliner sporting a perfect professional record in MMA. ‘El Matador’ has gone 6-0 inside the UFC, with four of those six wins coming by way of stoppage. In his most recent effort this past June in Jacksonville, Topuria scored a unanimous decision win over Josh Emmett.
Tonight’s UFC 298 event is co-headlined by a highly anticipated middleweight bout between Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa.
Whittaker (24-7 MMA) will enter the contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a TKO loss to Dricus Du Plessis in his most previous effort at UFC 290. Prior to that setback, the former middleweight champion was coming off a unanimous decision victory over Marvin Vettori in September of 2022.
Meanwhile, Paulo Costa (14-2 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since scoring a unanimous decision win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 278 in August of 2022. ‘Borrachinha’ was supposed to fight Khamzat Chimaev at last fall’s UFC 294 event in Abu Dhabu but was ultimately forced out of that bout due to injury.
Also featured on tonight’s UFC 298 main card is a highly anticipated welterweight clash between Ian Machado Garry and Geoff Neal.
Garry (13-0 MMA) will enter the contest sporting a perfect professional record, his most recent victory coming over Neil Magny by unanimous decision at UFC 292. The Irish standout has gone 6-0 inside of the Octagon thus far, a streak which includes 3 TKO victories.
Meanwhile, Geoff Neal (15-5 MMA) was last seen in action 11 months ago at UFC 285, where he suffered a submission loss to streaking contender Shavkat Rakhmonov. That setback had snapped a two-fight win streak for ‘Handz of Steel’, who had previously defeated Vicente Luque by knockout, and Santiago Ponzinibio by split decision.
If that wasn’t enough to get you interested, UFC 298 also features a high stakes men’s bantamweight matchup between Henry Cejudo and Merab Dvalishvili.
Cejudo (16-3 MMA) will enter the contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a split decision loss to Aljamain Sterling in a fight for the promotion’s 135lbs strap last May in New Jersey. Prior to that setback, ‘Triple C’ had strung together six straight victories, which included stoppage wins over Dominick Cruz, Marlon Moraes and TJ Dillashaw.
Meanwhile, Merab Dvalishvili (16-4 MMA) will enter tonight’s bout sporting a nine-fight winning streak, his most recent being a lopsided decision victory over former title holder Petr Yan. Seven of the Georgian’s last eight wins have come by way of decision.
