Rampage Jackson alleges Ian Garry turned down podcast appearance because he was afraid of being laughed at
Former UFC champion Rampage Jackson has had many fighters on his podcast, but Ian Garry won’t be one of them.
Starting last year, the former champion decided to start his ‘Jaxxon‘ podcast. Along the way, Rampage Jackson has interviewed many fighters, including names such as Gilbert Burns, Cain Velasquez, and more. One name that the former UFC champion wanted to speak to, is one Ian Garry.
‘The Future’ is currently slated to face Geoff Neal at UFC 298 later this month. For Ian Garry, the bout comes just months after he was forced out of a fight with Vicente Luque. The two were slated to clash at UFC 296 in December, but the bout was canceled after the Irishman came down with an illness.
The build to that canceled fight with ‘The Silent Assassin’ was a rough one for Ian Garry. His relationship came under heavy scrutiny, but that wasn’t all. His former teammates, such as Brendan Allen, took issue with the Irishman trash-talking Luque in the build-up. Garry and the Brazilian were famously teammates before taking the fight, but it seems that friendship is over.
However, Rampage Jackson just genuinely wanted to interview the young welterweight. Sadly, Ian Garry never went on the former UFC champion’s podcast. Speaking on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani earlier this week, Jackson opened up on the situation. While Garry felt that he was going to be mocked on the podcast, the heavyweight rejected that idea. Then, made fun of him anyway.
Rampage Jackson says Ian Garry turned down interview due to fear of being mocked
“We already had somebody decline because they said I was going to make fun of them but I haven’t really been making fun of him.” Rampage Jackson stated on The MMA Hour earlier this week, referencing Ian Garry. “Honestly I can’t remember his name but I think it was that guy that, what’s his name? Ian? I think they finally got him on, he didn’t wanna come at first. What’s his name? Ian the c***, Ian with the wife that’s got the boyfriend living with them. Ian Garry.” (h/t MMA News)
He continued, “What? I’m not gonna make fun of him? Is that true though that his wife got a boyfriend living with them? Oh it’s not true? That’s a rumour too?”
While Ian Garry is currently scheduled to fight later this month, Rampage Jackson recently booked a return of his own. The former UFC champion hasn’t been seen in the cage since a knockout loss to Fedor Emelianenko in 2019. However, he’s now expected to face Shannon Briggs in a boxing match in June, in a long-awaited grudge match.
What do you make of these comments from Rampage Jackson? Are you excited for Ian Garry’s return at UFC 298 later this month?
