Jon Anik explains why he’s “so thankful” that the UFC allows freedom of speech: “There isn’t a double standard”
UFC commentator Jon Anik has explained why he’s a fan of the promotion’s view on freedom of speech.
For the longest time now, Jon Anik has been the voice of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He’s spent years carving out a reputation for himself as one of the best in the game, and fans hold him in high regard.
In recent times, though, he’s made it clear that the way in which the fanbase behaves sometimes has left him contemplating his future.
Even with that being the case, however, Anik has made it clear that he’s a fan of the UFC’s view on freedom of speech – as he spoke about during a recent interview.
Anik praises White
“I am so thankful that there isn’t a double standard,” Anik said. “And even if you look at some of my tweets, wondering aloud why a certain man or woman isn’t getting a title fight, right, some people might think ‘Why would the lead play-by-play voice of the UFC be uttering that in a public space?’ But I have never been muzzled, I have never been censored, and when I talk to my boss Craig Borsari about all of this, there was nothing suggestive coming out of his mouth, it was all support.”
“I’m very thankful that even when my opinion disagrees with the promotion, they still allow me to voice my opinion,” Anik explained. “Because I try to do it in a thoughtful way, and a respectful way, and that’s why I think maybe that I am afforded that leash. But that’s one thing that I am supremely grateful for because from day one, I remember Dana White pulling me into his office saying ‘We didn’t hire you to be Joe Rogan or Mike Goldberg or anybody else, we want you to be you’ and that’s held true since January 20th, 2012.”
